Behanji Mayavathi who was on the Election Campaign

Madurai, Apr 10 : Stating that only Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) could safeguard the principles of reservation to ensure social equality among various sections in the society, party supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati appealed to voters of Tamil Nadu to elect BSP candidates to usher in change in the state as it had done back home.

"Though we got Independence more than six decades ago, the poor had become poorer and rich had become richer. To change this philosophy, the BSP should grow by strengthening its base in a state like Tamil Nadu, she said, addressing a public meeting at Teppakulam here last night. She said the BSP had faith on the people and hence the party was contesting alone in Tamil Nadu.

"We do not like to ally with either the national or the regional parties here", she said. The party would erect the statues of Ambedkar, Narayana Guru and Dravidian movement founder Periyar in Tamil Nadu to make the people aware of their life history and implement separate welfare schemes for Dalits, minorities and the economically backward classes, she promised.

Terming the Congress and BJP as "anti-people", she accused them of not implementing reservation in letter and spirit. Both these parties, during their rule, diluted the reservation policy, which ensures social justice. Instead, they want to abolish reservation. Despite several letters written to the Centre on the need to provide reservation in judiciary and private sector and include the Dalit converts in the Scheduled Caste, it was not done so far, she charged. Mayawati said the Uttar Pradesh model of reservation would be enforced for upper caste people, if the BSP was elected to power in the state.

The BSP had created history by contesting alone and forming a government four times in that state. This was possible only because of its all inclusive policy. Rangasamy charged that his cabinet colleagues had enacted a drama of non-cooperation to him. Citing the example of the Government Medical College, he said the chief secretary and the development commissioner had obtained a wrong estimate for Rs 853 crore. When it was not even considered, his cabient colleagues enacted a drama based on the estimate and ousted him.

On the charge that he had concentrated only on his Thattanchavady constituency, Mr.Rangasamy said when he went for electioneering in the rural Sellippattu and Manalipattu constituencies, people came to him and thanked him for providing employment to youths in their villages. Several youths from those villages are working in the India Reserve Battalion, he said. He said he did know any of them. They were selected on the basis of qualifications.

The government led by him was the only government which had provided employment on the basis of qualifications, he claimed. It was only the charge of one individual that he did everything for Thattanchavady. If it was true, will the response of the people to his new party be like this, he quipped.

The Hidden History of Srm.Vadivu Sundarlingam was for the first time brought to light with sincere attempts of Mr.E.Pa.Jeevankumar (State Sr.Gen.Secretary,BSP-TN). Behanji Mayavathi who was on the Election Campaign in Madurai 09.04.2011 was presented with portrait of Srm.VadivuSundarlingam
